The Journey to Self Care
One wellness solution that many look to is travel. When most of us think of wellness travel, we think of escaping our everyday lives for rest and relaxation. This results in reduced stress and anxiety.
Studies show that the main components of wellness travel are: healthy meals, outdoor experiences, fitness activities, meditation and nutrition. So, why wellness travel you might ask? According to Travel and Lifestyle Blogger, Cass Rose (www.lovinglifewithcass.com), you can improve your mental and physical health, explore the world and learn about different cultures, boost your confidence, gain a sense of gratitude, embrace the natural beauty of the world, engage in self-care, make life-minded friends, relax, transform your total self, and just bask in pure happiness.
When my husband and I travel, we typically experience all of the above. We usually choose destinations, hotels and resorts based on their offerings of fitness centers, spas and access to cultural activities. We make every effort to avoid neglecting our physical being by continuing our workout routines. Now this aspect of wellness can be hard to maintain while on vacation, but we make it happen as much as we can. We also deem it necessary to feed our mental being by occasionally opting for spa services during our vacation. Although we are away from church family when on vacation, we feed our spiritual being through prayer, devotionals, virtual worship and/or reflecting.
Typically, all of these are ‘the’ reason people choose to get away right? For me personally, being on vacation is the time for me to reflect and refresh. It’s the well-deserved opportunity to escape the daily demands of life and make self-care the priority.
